Job Description:
Job Summary:
The Data Center Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting the day-to-day operations of a data center. This role involves installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting server hardware, networking equipment, and other data center infrastructure. The Data Center Technician ensures that all equipment is running efficiently and reliably, performing routine maintenance, and addressing issues that may arise to minimize downtime.
Statements of Duties:
Operational Duties:
- Check environmental controls (HVAC systems, fire suppression systems) to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Regularly inspect hardware components (servers, storage devices, networking equipment) for signs of wear and tear.
- Routine cleaning of equipment and data center floors to prevent dust accumulation, which can lead to overheating and equipment failure.
- Clean air filters and ensure proper airflow around equipment.
- Test and replace batteries in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and backup systems as needed.
- Inspect power distribution units (PDUs) and ensure proper functioning.
- Ensure that cables are labeled for easy identification.
- Implement monitoring systems to track performance metrics and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.).
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
- Train staff on preventive maintenance procedures and the importance of regular checks.
- Ensure that equipment and infrastructure are always in good condition.
- Daily Checks for Generators:
- Check for any signs of leaks, corrosion, or physical damage.
- Fuel Level tank, Oil Level, and Battery Condition.
- Weekly Checks:Start the Generator: Running the generator briefly ensures it starts and operates smoothly.
- Checking Control Panel: Monitor gauges and indicators for any abnormal readings.
- Inspect the Air Filter for dirt and debris.
- Load Bank Testing.
2- Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent technical certifications and experience.
- 2+ years of experience working in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or hardware support.
- Hands-on experience with server hardware, networking equipment, and data center infrastructure.
- Language skills: English.
3- Preferred Skills & Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of data center hardware (servers, switches, routers, storage systems) and networking concepts.
- Knowledge of operating systems such as Linux, Windows, and virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving hardware and network-related issues.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially under pressure.
Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure compliance with strict security and operational standards.
