About the Company : Our client, a leading company in the manufacturing industry, is currently seeking a Purchasing & Planning Manager to join their Canadian operations.
About the Role : Reporting to the Director of North American Purchasing & Planning, this role is responsible for overseeing production planning, scheduling, purchasing, and logistics functions, ensuring alignment with global supply chain strategies.
Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage the purchasing, production planning, and logistics teams, providing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
- Supervise Buyers and Planners through daily management to improve material availability, optimize production schedules, and eliminate shortages and bottlenecks.
- Develop and maintain key supply chain metrics, including supplier evaluations and KPIs such as total cost of acquisition, cost savings, inventory turnover, lead times, and service levels.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to forecast material requirements and ensure timely procurement to meet business and customer needs.
- Analyze sales forecasts, customer orders, and inventory data to develop accurate and efficient production plans.
- Establish and refine purchasing policies and procedures to ensure effective use of resources.
- Work closely with Category Managers to identify cost-saving opportunities, implement process improvements, and deploy category strategies.
- Prepare and present production performance, capacity utilization, and schedule adherence reports for senior leadership.
- Oversee inventory forecasting, demand planning, and capacity reporting processes.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team efficiency and operational effectiveness.
- Support departmental cross-training and act as the escalation point for planning and purchasing issues.
- Build and maintain a high-performing supplier base through strategic partnerships focused on innovation, improvement, and continuity.
- Manage supplier performance and contracts, including supplier scorecards and agreements.
- Negotiate and oversee contracts with third-party logistics providers for various transportation modes.
- Develop transportation strategies to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery of inbound and outbound goods.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable shipping, customs, and import/export regulations.
- Track logistics KPIs and provide regular performance reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- 7+ years of purchasing/procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in business, supply chain, or a related field
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and related applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Self-driven, results-oriented, and highly organized
- Effective at problem-solving, decision-making, and process improvement
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience supporting custom product manufacturing
- Skilled in sourcing niche or specialized suppliers
- Knowledge of procurement best practices
- Background working in technical or engineering environments
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with ISO standards and process documentation
- Business acumen and strong judgment
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship
Preferred Skills :
- Project management training
- Professional certifications such as APICS CSCP, CPIM, SCMA, or equivalent
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing tools and principles
Pay range and compensation package : $120,000-$125,000 + bonus
