Guided by the CRAFT Code Standards, WIM Zimbabwe fosters responsible mining practices, fair practices, and improved health and safety. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant – Role Description
Location: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (Hybrid)
Type: Full-Time 5 months contract
Role Summary: WIM
Zimbabwe is an emerging organisation, and the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant will be instrumental in establishing M&E systems and frameworks from the ground up. This role involves creating monitoring tools, conducting baseline data collection, assisting with project proposal development, and building the foundation for future data management and reporting. The M&E Assistant will work closely with leadership and partners to develop effective systems for measuring the organisation’s growth and impact, with a special focus on the Jewel of Heritage Gemstone Project, supported by our international partners.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and design M&E frameworks, tools, and templates tailored to the organisation’s emerging projects and goals.
- Conduct baseline assessments and data collection to understand community needs, mining activities, and potential beneficiaries.
- Support the preparation of project proposals by providing relevant data and M&E input.
- Establish databases and record-keeping systems for stakeholders, partners, and beneficiaries.
- Assist in designing policies and Organisational SOPs.
- Pilot data collection methods in the field and recommend improvements.
- Document initial success stories, community feedback, and early organisational outcomes.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure M&E findings inform organisational strategy and development plans.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Experience or interest in developing M&E systems, baseline data collection, and research.
- Strong skills in data collection and analysis (qualitative and quantitative)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with basic statistical software is desirable.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, travel to field sites, and adapt in a start-up environment.
- Interest in ethical and responsible mining practices is a plus.
